In the summer of 1927, talent scout Ralph Peer set up portable recording equipment in the mountain town of Bristol on the Tennessee-Virginia border. When his two-week marathon recording session was over he had discovered the likes of Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family and had produced 76 landmark recordings, which would pave the way for the commercialization of modern country music. These historic sessions showcase the diversity of early country music including gospel, blues, ballads, and mountain fiddle tunes.
