Blessed by ragtimer Eubie Blake, Trebor Tichenor plays the "real stuff." Rags, Tichenor comments, "retain strong ties to the country" — maintaining notably midwestern and southern roots—and are characteristically endowed with folk strains "ebullient" or "ribald," "wistful" or "bittersweet." Tichenor's originals include "Wine Room Rag" and "Hickory-Smoked Rag," but this recording also features pieces from contemporaries Charles Hunter, Robert Hoffman and Percy Wenrich.
