The words "bayou" and "bluegrass" don't often appear in the same sentence. Nevertheless, in 1961, music ethnologist Harry Oster asked banjoist/singer Jim Smoak to form a bluegrass band in Louisiana. The venture resulted in a recording of 21 songs played in a bluegrass style. The complete original recording session was issued by Arhoolie in 2002.
