[Notes]
By his own admission, Dave Fredrickson is less a folk singer than a singer of old-time songs. He performs, with his guitar, in the relaxed style of the cowboy singers of days gone by, and his diverse repertoire is drawn from cowboy records, traditional singers, field recordings from the Library of Congress, and from books. His renditions of what he calls "Okie" and "Hillbilly" music convey a warmth and integrity that can be heard throughout this compilation of night-herding songs, ballads, and musical accounts of cowboy life. Liner notes include excerpts from a letter by Fredrickson, song lyrics, and notes on the songs.
