[Notes]
Folksinger and political activist Barbara Dane pays tribute to working class men and women in this collection of both original and cover recordings. Dane, once described by jazz critic Leonard Feather as "Bessie Smith in stereo," sings original songs like "Working Class Woman" and "In the Earth, in the Grasses" and covers the Depression-era classic "Brother Can You Spare a Dime?" and James Taylor's "Millworker." Her son Pablo Menendez is featured prominently throughout, playing a multitude of instruments including acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass, harmonica, mandolin, percussion, and synthesizer. Dane provides a written introduction followed by background information and complete musician credits for all tracks.
