[Notes]
This album is the inaugural edition of "What Now, People?" Issued in 1975, this "song magazine on a record" used music to communicate social commentary and truths to its listeners. With songs by Pete Seeger, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Holly Near, and others, the album focuses on social justice, war, pain, love, and hope in a dangerous world. Liner notes include bios, lyrics, and background information on tracks, as well an introduction and statement of purpose: "a distaste for the brand of imperialism, racism and sexism that is identified by liberation forces everywhere as American."
