[Notes]
Originally released by the Western Jubilee Recording Company, Hooves of the Horses is Wylie & The Wild West's musical tribute to Equus caballus—the domesticated horse. The record features sixteen selections celebrating horses, riders, and the experience of the saddle. Built mostly from front man and Grand Ole Opry veteran Wylie Gustafson’s original compositions, it also presents thoughtful renditions of tunes from Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, and legendary cowboy singer Bob Nolan. In a heartfelt and playfully somber tone, Gustafson writes:
"When it comes time to chisel my tombstone, I hope the term 'horseman' will be included to describe what I accomplished in this world. And more importantly, I hope it will be said that I was fair and kind to God's greatest beast."
