[Notes]
Mercy Dee (born Mercy Davis Walton, August 3, 1915 – December 2, 1962) was a jump blues pianist who found fame after spending years working the fields in Texas. Troublesome Minds is a testament to the natural talent Mercy Dee possessed when it came to picking up rhythms from his blues background and melding them with the style of Texas pianists. The junction of the two styles plus Mercy Dee’s own prolific lyricism made him into a popular singer and performer on not just the West Coast, but across the country. The songs range from humorous to self-pitying, all are from the heart of Mercy Dee.
